Being a working mum can be very rewarding. Every day brings new magical moments, and you are providing an excellent role model for your child. But raising a child while working isn’t particularly easy; it can be very time-consuming and stressful, and over time this can lead to career burnout.

Working mums tend to get less free time and sleep, and this can result in a lack of energy that leaves them feeling demoralised and unmotivated.

However; burnout doesn’t have to be a part of your daily life. There are lots of things that you can do to reduce burnout as a working mum, and this means you will have time to focus on your career, your children and yourself.

Here are four tips to help you deal with career burnout as a working mum.

1. Find A Friendly Resource Group

There are lots of working mums in the UK who want to connect with other working mums. So if you are a female business owner with children, don’t feel alone; instead join a friendly resource group or forum for working mums. This means that you will be able to share your concerns with people who can relate to your problems, which will help to reduce feelings of stress and loneliness. After all, a problem shared is a problem solved!

It is also possible that other working parents will be able to provide solutions to some of your problems, especially if they run a similar business model.

2. Don’t Be Afraid To Delegate Work

Lots of British business owners dislike delegating work as they feel like they are losing control, but in reality there are lots of benefits to delegating work; you can hire an expert with experience, so the task will be completed quickly (and it is also likely that they will complete the job to a higher standard!). This means that you don’t have to spend days or weeks painstakingly learning a new skill; instead you can assign the task to someone else so that you have more free time to focus on other things.

And delegating work doesn’t have to be expensive; there are lots of business apps that can complete small tasks automatically, and many of these apps are completely free. We also have a team of highly skilled professionals who can help you with customer support, admin and business support.

3. Create A Proper Self Care Plan

Raising a child and managing a career can take a big toll on both your physical and mental health, so you should create a self-care plan to ensure you don’t forget about your own needs. Many working mums don’t do this, as they already have a long list of things that need doing every day – but it is essential to think about yourself if you want to avoid career burnout!

Maybe you could schedule a hot bath every evening, or you could plan to meet a friend for coffee. It doesn’t matter if the task takes five minutes or an hour; every day you should reserve a small amount of time for yourself.

4. Stop Working At Your Desk

If you have burnout and you always work in the same place, consider a change of scenery. You could move your home office around, or you could try working from a nearby café – either way, a new location could help to boost your mood and motivate you.
