And the winner is…
OK, so there’s no denying it – putting your business or indeed yourself forward for an award can feel uncomfortable. Nobody likes a show off, right? Applying for awards is a time-consuming, sometimes costly process and quite frankly what’s the point if you can’t guarantee a win?! I have recently asked myself these exact questions. But I’ve come to realise that in business you have to shout about your achievements from the rooftops very loudly and very clearly because no one else is going to do it for you.
Here are five reasons why applying for awards is one of the best things you can do for your business this year.
1. Free marketing
Even by just being shortlisted, awards get you noticed – by the media, your competitors and most importantly your customers. They provide an excellent PR opportunity to shout about your achievements, so make sure you go to town on flaunting any shortlistings – or even better – wins – for all their worth. Press releases, blog posts, social media, you name it – tell everyone you know!
2. Morale boosting
Who doesn’t want to work for an award-winning team?! Getting the team together to reflect on achievements and apply for awards is an excellent team building exercise in itself. Being recognised externally for those achievements is even better. And if there’s the opportunity to head to a swanky awards ceremony to be applauded by other top industry players, that’s just the icing on the cake!
3. Review, analyse and evaluate
If nothing else applying for awards gives us the opportunity to sit down and truly reflect on some of our best achievements. It enables us to benchmark against our competitors, learn from what we have done, and give ourselves a very well-deserved pat on the back!
4. Attract top talent
It just takes you posting that one photo of you and your team holding up a shiny new award on your LinkedIn, and hey presto – your inbox is inundated with CVs from talented individuals wanting to join your award-winning team! Simple!
5. Schmooze with industry experts and contacts
Not all, but some awards come with a glitzy awards ceremony. These are not only great fun but they’re also an opportunity to meet other top players in the industry and possibly potential customers. Obviously winning is the main objective, but if you can meet other leaders and learn from their successes, surely that’s a win in itself?
So, in summary, I urge you all to make 2024 the year that you lose your inhibitions and start shouting about how amazingly brilliant you and your team are!
And on that note…ahem…. I should probably mention that I’ve recently been awarded a 2024 Women In Business Award for Remote Working Businesswoman of the Year! I’m beyond chuffed and so proud of our team here at SpareMyTime who are all winners in my eyes!
